Steven Gerrard spills true Rangers feelings to Ally McCoist as 'immaculate' Ibrox transfer business wins ex boss acclaim

Liverpool icon has discussed Danny Rohl’s impact at Ibrox and his own management future in a live radio interview

Steven Gerrard has declared that watching Rangers’ rise under Danny Rohl from afar has been “phenomenal” - before teasing that he’s readier than ever to return to management should the right opportunity arise.

The Liverpool icon has recently relocated back to the UK with his family after living out in the Middle East for the past two-and-a-half years. They were settled in Bahrain after the former Light Blues and Aston Villa boss’ stint in charge of Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq.

Gerrard was in line to make a sensational return to Ibrox last October after being identified by the club’s new American owners as their first-choice candidate to replace axed head coach Russell Martin.

However, the 45-year-old pulled out of discussions to return to the dugout amid concerns over the timing of the move. The job instead went to ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl, who has dragged Rangers back from the brink and into a three-way Premiership title battle with Hearts and Celtic.

With Gerrard now back in England, he has been keeping a close eye on Rangers impressive resurgence under the German. Speaking live on talkSPORT in conversation with Gers hero Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor, he said: “Danny has been phenomenal.

“What was it, 13 points off the top? What a job. He’s come in, he’s said all the right things, he’s tweaked things on the pitch and his January signings have been immaculate.

“How good is it, Ally, when you win on a Saturday? You’re ready for your roast dinner on a Sunday, then you watch the others and the pressure is all on them. It’s brilliant, isn’t it?”

Gerrard addresses future in management after UK return

Gerrard was then pressed on his own future in management after a lengthy period out of the game. No working primarily as a pundit for TNT Sports, he insists he’s in no rush to get back into the dugout but will throw his hat into the ring if the right opportunity presents itself.

“I’m more ready than I have been,” he added. “My family are back home in Liverpool, the kids are all settled in school. I’m ready to get back into management. I’m all ears.

“I’m not chasing, I’m not searching. I’m not desperate. I’m in a good place, my work-life balance in fantastic at the moment. But if the right opportunity comes, I’m all ears.”
