Rob Roy boss Maxwell delighted with win over Kennoway

Rabs defied dreadful conditions to dispose of Kennoway Star Hearts with a comprehensive 6-2 victory.

Maxwell said: “In the first half we were shooting into a driving wind and the rain was torrential, but we had some good passages of play.

“They are not a bad side, they’re very youthful and play with no fear which creates a problem because at times they don’t really play with a shape, they just go gung-ho which curtails you a wee bit.

“We started really well and scored straight away - I don’t think they touched the ball.

“Then we got a second and a third and at half-time it was difficult because they boys were saturated, it was horrendous.

“In the second half they [Kennoway] had a couple of good chances and I thought they passed the ball really well. They never gave up which is credit to them, they kept plugging away.

“But we were very ruthless with our finishing and scored three goals in seven minutes.

“We’ve not conceded a goal in the whole competition and I would have liked to have kept that going. But they got a wee bit slack.

“It took a wee bit of shine off it, but to be fair to them I think they deserved a goal because they plugged away, they never gave up.”

“Overall I’m delighted. I think a lot of people forget they’re a Superleague Premier team. They’re not a district team and we’ve taken six goals off them so we’ve got to be happy with that.”

Maxwell was also delighted to the goals shared around with six different players hitting the target.

He said: “We had six different scorers and the two strikers who started the game didn’t score.

“They contributed to the game obviously but to get six different scorers was pleasing.

“As you get to the business end of the season you need the goals to be spread about, to have that strength in depth where you’re not relying on a striker.”

Next up for Rob Roy on Saturday is the West of Scotland Cup and a home first round tie with Irvine Vics.
