Rob Roy boss Maxwell looking for more consistency

Kirkintilloch Rob Roy boss Stewart Maxwell has warned his players that they are playing for their Scottish Junior Cup places.

Rabs face Fife side Kennoway Star Hearts in the last 32 of the junior game’s premier competition later this month.

But before then they head for Ayrshire this Saturday to face title chasers Beith in a Super League Premier Division clash.

And as they go into a new year Maxwell has demanded his side show more consistency than they have in the first half of a stop-start campaign.

He said: “We’ve had a lot of injuries in different areas and it’s difficult when you’re changing personnel.

“In some of the games this year our form’s been terrific, good attacking play and scoring goals, but when we don’t play we seem to really not play.

“We need to learn that when we’re not having a good day we need to fight our corner and try and scrap something out. We can’t just fold.

“After the Glenafton performance everyone’s playing for their jersey and with the Scottish Cup coming up they all want to play in that.

“You’ve got to earn your stripes and earn your selection. When we step up to the mark and play we’re as good as anybody, but we have to be more consistent.”

Maxwell knows that Beith will provide tough opposition.

He said: “They’ve been a top side for a number of years.

“We need to apply ourselves in the right way but if we can go down with a game plane and perform we can win.”
