Victory over Shettleston Juniors at Cambuslang Rangers’ Sommervell Park ground will bring Rabs their first trophy since they last won the competition in 1973.

Stewart Maxwell’s side go into the match as favourites to end their long trophy drought after a perfect 10 wins out of 10 league and cup matches so far those season.

But manager Maxwell knows his side’s exploits so far will count for nothing once the action gets under way at Cambuslang on Sunday.

He said: “It’s a cup final and we all know that on a one-off occasion like this anything can happen.

“But the players have done really well so far this season and I’m confident that if we can perform to the level we have done so far we can bring the cup back to Kirkintilloch.”

The Rabs boss says that reaching the final has helped reinforce the bond between the club and the local community in Kirkintilloch.

He said: “Everybody knows it’s been a difficult period for the club, selling the ground and then sharing with Cumbernauld while we wait for a new ground to be completed.

“To win the cup would be terrific for so many people connected with the club - the committee members, the fans, all the people who work so hard behind the scenes to organise our social media, attract sponsors and everything else.”

“Success brings positivity. It’s great for the players to get the chance to close out the competition by lifting the trophy but this is an occasion for the whole club.

“It’s an occasion everyone can enjoy, although for the players they have to make sure they concentrate on the football side of things and that the occasion doesn’t pass them by.

“But if playing in a cup final can’t motivate them to perform then nothing will.”

Sunday’s match kicks off at 2pm and admission is £7 for adults and £3 for concessions.
