Rob Roy target place in last 16 of Scottish Junior Cup

Rob Roy beat Scottish Junior Cup holders Glenafton in the last round and now face Kennoway Star Hearts.

Stewart Maxwell’s side will be favourites to dispose of the Fife side after knocking out holders Glenafton in the previous round.

But boss Stewart Maxwell reckons Kennoway’s remarkable 5-5 draw at Linlithgow Rose should serve as a warning that their attitude will have to be right on the day.

The Rabs manager got the response he was looking for to his side’s 4-0 league defeat at Glenafton when they came away from Beith with a fine 1-0 win on Saturday.

And he’s looking for more of the same this week.

He said: “We’ve got to approach the game properly. It’s a one-off cup game and if they are capable of scoring five goals against Linlithgow they are capable of scoring five goals against a lot of teams.

“If we approach the game with the right attitude, with the quality we’ve got going forward we’ll be fine.

“We’ve not really hit full throttle yet this season and we’re still involved in every competition at the turn of the year.

“The Scottish is a big one so we’ve got to take heart from our performance at Beith and build on it. We’ve got to put that workrate in every week.

“The majority of my squad were there last year when we got to the quarter-finals.

“But we didn’t perform against Bonnyrigg so they’ve got a bit of unfinished business.”
