Rossvale 0 Neilston 1: Rossvale out of West of Scotland Cup

Rossvale went out of the West of Scotland Cup as they lost to Neilston in their first home match back at upgraded Petershill since November 5.

A goal 20 minutes from time was enough to earn Neilston victory in this second round battle of two Central District First Division sides.

The visitors started well, winning three corners in the opening 10 minutes, the third of which saw the ball headed into the net but the referee disallowed it for a push.

Vale had a couple of chances to open the scoring when Steven Seaton collected a loose pass and shot just wide and Craig Holmes fed in Euan Baird but his delivery to the near post went out for a goal kick.

Neilston then threatened from a free-kick in the 20th minute when ball was put into the danger area and Jamie Donnelly produced a quick reaction stop to stop the visitors going ahead.

Rossvale started to come into the game more and had their best spell of play when a cross was whipped in by Baird and headed over by Darren Ferguson.

Another good run by Baird set up Seaton but his shot from 25 yards was just off target.

Three minutes after the restart Neilston were awarded a penalty when Donnelly brought down a Neilston player but the keeper made amends by pushing the spot-kick over the bar.

Soon after this, Baird went on a run and had the option of playing in Holmes or Seaton but decided to go it alone and lost possession after being brought down just outside the box.

David Shaw, who had previously been booked, was lucky not to receive a second yellow for a challenge on a Neilston player.

With 20 minutes to play the deadlock was broken when a long-range effort from Brian Turner sailed over Donnelly.

Vale made a couple of changes and substitute Erald Krasniqi had the chance to level but his shot was wide and the visitors held out.

This Saturday Vale are away to league leaders Cambuslang Rangers.
