Rossvale boss Moffat upbeat despite Pollok cup exit

As expected Pollok made it through to the last 16, winning 3-0 at Petershill Park.

But Moffat says his side matched the Super League giants and rued the timing of the visitors’ first two goals which came right before and straight after half-time.

He said: “I was looking at my own watch and just thinking if we get in here at half-time we’ll have done well.

“But with five seconds left in the first half they’ve scored and then they’ve scored within a minute of the start of the second half after me saying to them to keep themselves in the game for the next 10 minutes.

“Just a crazy minute either side of half-time killed the tie. People will look and go ‘3-0, comfortable, easy’ and don’t get me wrong, Pollok deserved to go through.

“But I thought it was maybe tighter than the score suggested.

“We certainly by no means disgraced ourselves, we matched them for long spells.

“The first goal was literally the last kick of the first half. We put the ball down for the centre and the referee blew for half-time, which was a bit of a hammer blow.

“I had to lift them at half-time because they had put a lot into the first half to match them. We probably had slightly better openings than them in the first half, we just never hit the target.

“Their quality showed through and they were a lot more clinical for the goals with three good finishes. But the lads definitely gave a good account of themselves and their league.”

Moffat says the Central First Division leaders can take positives from the match into their league campaign which resumes on Saturday when Glasgow Perthshire visit New Huntershill.

He said: “I said to them afterwards I don’t like us losing any game, but I can take a lot from that. They’ve matched some of the best players at our grade for long spells and for some of them to take the next step it’s just the small details.

“You can’t switch off for any period of time, you need to be constantly switched on - when the ball goes out of play and so on.

“But we’ve matched a good team for long spells and that sets the bar for the rest of the season in our league games. They need to try and get themselves to that level.”
