Rossvale super show puts Ayrshire side out of West

Former Vics player Smart Osadolor got the other goal - atoning for an early penalty miss - as ‘Vale ran out convincing winners over a lacklustre home side.

The game started frantically when George Thomson robbed Rossvale keeper Jamie Donnelly a yard outside his box after two minutes.

The striker tried to square the ball for Kevin Adams but the pass was just too heavy with the goal gaping.

A minute later Rossvale were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Graeme Condon brought down Kirk Forbes in the box.

Up stepped Osadolor but his slow walk to take the kick allowed keeper Craig Lamb the chance to make a fantastic save and keep the game scoreless.

The away side had claims for a second penalty turned away after 12 minutes before, at the other end, Scott Chesney set up Adam who had his shot deflected behind.

From the corner, the ball found its way to Sean Mears who played the ball to Condon to send a shot just wide of the post.

The game died down with both sides struggling to make much of their possession before, on 32 minutes, Rossvale were awarded their second penalty of the afternoon

Grant Bolton’s clumsy challenge on Corey Irvine let Holmes get his first chance and he didn’t disappoint, sending Lamb the wrong way.

There was a scare for Vics’ Paul Young six minutes later. The ball was played deep to the back post and, with Young and Donnelly both looking at the ball, the pair collided with Young needing treatment. He was alright to play on and finish the match.

The second half started in a similar vein to the first.

An Irvine header from a throw in was well saved by Lamb before, at the other end, Donnelly spilled a decent ball in from Chesney which caused a stramash in the box with Mears sending the ball wide.

Rossvale then took control of the game. Osadolor’s mazy run lead to a corner which was headed over after 53 minutes and Anton McDowall’s ball in was headed over by Irvine two minutes later.

Vics’ David Wilson then picked up the only booking of the game with a foul on Irvine 25 yards from goal. However, Forbes’s effort was closer to the railway line which runs parallel to the park than it was the goal.

Just as the game reached the hour mark, Rossvale were hitting their stride and Holmes drove down the right wing before beating three Vics players to work his way into the box on the byline and squared the ball for an Osadolor tap-in from three yards to make it 2-0.

The home side had their best chance of the match five minutes later.

Substitute Eddie Ablorh won a corner which was played in perfectly for Graham Longair but his netbound header was cleared off the line by the Rossvale defence.

Seconds later, Vics tried the same routine again but this time Longair’s header ended up over the bar.

With 21 minutes to go, Holmes and Osadolor showed off their technique with an exchange of beautiful crossfield passes before Osadolar tried his luck from 20 yards but Lamb was equal to it.

Vics created few chances to get back into the match, the best falling on 72 minutes when Bolton set up Thomson who produced a good save from Donnelly.

The final nail in the Irvine side’s coffin came with four minutes to play.

A Forbes short corner allowed Holmes to meander his way into the perfect position to unleash a superb effort from 25 yards that left Lamb with no chance.
