Season’s over for Rob Roy, but gaffer has the bit between his teeth

THEY might have ended the season with a brace of defeats – in the cup and league – but Rob Roy are hungry for success.

That’s the upbeat view of gaffer Jimmy Lindsay, who says he’d have ‘bitten the hand off anyone’ who offered Rabs eighth place in the league last August.

Rabs crashed out of the Central League Cup after a thrilling 3-2 quarter-final loss to Shotts Bon Accord last Wednesday.

Then, on Saturday, a 4-2 loss to Largs Thistle left the team having to settle for eighth place in the league.

Lindsay told the Herald: “It was a bad way to finish, but we’ve still got ourself into a position where we can look ahead to next season with something to build on.

“We simply didn’t defend properly. Against Shotts we got 1-0 up in the first half, but then gifted them the equaliser.

“We really battered them for most of the second half, but it just wasn’t to be. We had a penalty claim turned down in the dying minutes but, to be honest, I don’t know whether it was one or not.

“In the match against Largs I think they only got six chances and they scored four of them.

“We thought we’d got rid of that problem earlier in the season, but it’s come back to haunt us in the last two games.”

Lindsay told the Herald he planned to continue managing Rabs next season and vowed to build his squad over the summer break.

He added: “It’s been a good season. If you’d offered eighth place at the start, when I only had two players signed, I’d have bitten your hand off!”
