SCOTLAND’S Under-18 schoolboy footballers recently celebrated a 1-0 victory over England and with it, a share of the Centenary Shield for the first time in ten years.

Cumbernauld’s Owen Ronald played an important role in Scotland’s attack, as the young Scots secured the three points required.

England started brightly at Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s Tulloch Stadium, striking the woodwork in the fifth minute and again in the seventh.

Scotland began to get a grip of the game, however, a 25-yard drive from captain Alan Urquhart, which dipped agonisingly over the bar, was the closest they came to opening the scoring in the first half.

The second followed in much the same vein with Scotland continually trying to break down the English defence.

Scotland eventually got the crucial goal as Stuart Love side-footed the ball into the net from six yards out.

The Scots held onto their slender lead to not only secure a share of the Shield, but also claim the inaugural Lloyds TSB Scotland International Challenge Cup.
