Two in a row for resurgent United

A Davie Dickson double secured the points as United secured a valuable three points in their fight to move clear of the relegtion zone

After a very even opening start to the match United were first to show when an excellent move on the right saw Paddy McCabe force his way to the byline and his cross was headed over by the inrushing Dickson.

Minutes later the same two players were involved again; this time McCabe’s cross was met by the outstretched leg of Dickson but from six yards Alan Cairns deflected the ball for a corner.

The visitors were now getting well on top and duly opened the scoring on 20 minutes when yet another McCabe cut back was met by Dickson who made no mistake from 18 yards time.

It was soon to be 2-0. From a well worked free kick that man Dickson found space in the box and had time to pick his spot much to the delight of a good travelling United support.

Although it was all United Yoker did have some spells where they played some nice football but their only effort was a nattempt from Gary Bissland which struck the top of the upright.

Minutes after the interval Yoker were given a lifeline when, after consecutive corners, they were awarded a penalty for an infringement by McCabe.

However a poor spot kick by Ryan Hynes was well saved by David Buchanan who kept his clean sheet recoed intact since rejoining United from Cumnock.

This could have made for a difficult second half for United but as much as Yoker enjoyed plenty of possession the United defence looked solid with Hewitt and Hamilton in commanding form.

The visitors could have increased their lead when a powerful run by Chris Lennon and a flashing cross was missed at the back post by Dylan McGuigan.
