Rossvale put a traumatic week behind them in the best possible way by keeping their promotion bid on track with a fine 1-0 win at Neilston on Saturday.

Corey Irvine got the winner for the Bishopbriggs side after 15 minutes in their first match since last weekend’s surprise departure of manager Martin Lauchlan.

And third-placed ‘Vale got a further boost when they came off to discover that Central First Division leaders Renfrew had been beaten 2-1 at Lesmahagow.

The victory moves Rossvale to within four points of Renfrew with three games in hand.

Meanwhile it was also a good day for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy who ended a run of four games without a win by defeating Super League Premier Divison leaders Pollok 3-2 at Guy’s Meadow.

It was Stewart Mexwell’s side’s first win since they beat Pollok 1-0 at Newlandsfield in December, since when they had just one point out of a possible 12.

Kevin Watt gave Rabs a 15th minute lead and Pollok were then reduced to 10 men when Carlo Monti was red-carded.

Pollok, who finished December’s match with just seven men, levelled through Mark Sideserf eight minutes into the second period but Willie Sawyer put Rob Roy back in front on the hour.

Davie Winters made it 2-2 from the penalty spot in 65 minutes but a dramatic winner two minutes from time by David Barr earned a vital three points for Rabs.
