WEE’S WINTER WOES

The visit of Queen’s Park to Broadwood will have to be re-arranged for the third time after freezing temperatures towards the end of last week made the pitch unplayable.

Bully Wee boss Stuart Millar is desperate to get going again.

He said: “It was disappointing this time as we felt in the middle part of the week that there was a good chance it was going to be on. But the forecast soon made it clear, with minus five temperatures Thursday and Friday, there was no chance of us getting to play.

“There wasn’t a lot could be done, we were there on Thursday night and we couldn’t really do much then. The decision was taken to call it off on Friday, that was even before the heavy snowfall that came later in the night. You don’t want people coming out in that.”

With the past seven games falling victim to the weather, and another to the referee’s strike, Clyde will have a huge backlog to work through over the coming months.

Millar thinks that could be both a benefit and a hinderance to his team.

He continued: “I think there’s two sides to it. Players would rather play than train so having a game at the weekend and mid-week is a plus for that. But then you’ve got guys not having enough time to recover from injuries and then suspensions mount up.

“Of course, being a part-time club, the guys have got full-time jobs. We’re looking at games like Elgin, Stranraer and Annan Athletic which we’ll need to play at night during the week.”

He added: “We’re hopeful this weekend at East Stirling on their artificial surface will be on, but we’ll have to wait and see. You’ve just got to stay positive and remember everyone’s in the same boat.”
