When it comes to producing talent, Rangers and Celtic are keen to make homegrown players part of their make-up.
However, that has become increasingly difficult in recent seasons as Europe’s largest clubs look to snap up promising talent at increasingly younger ages. The likes of Scotland call-up Ben Doak left Celtic for Liverpool long before his 18th birthday and with only two first team appearances at Celtic Park to his name while Billy Gilmlour was snapped up by Chelsea in 2017 before even getting near the Rangers first team.
Looking back, here are 14 Celtic and Rangers wonderkids from the past and where they are now:

5. Billy Gilmour - Midfielder
Current club: Brighton & Hove Albion - A huge success story and one that got away from Rangers. Decided against signing a professional deal at Ibrox in favour of moving to London. Starred for Chelsea’s first-team under Frank Lampard before being loaned out to Norwich City after falling out of favour under Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge. Has since became a key figure of Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad and is now at the Amex Stadium and making up for lost time after a slow start. | Getty Images

6. Armstrong Oko-Flex - Winger
Current club: FC Zurich (Switzerland) - Headed north to Celtic from Arsenal in 2018, but the Republic of Ireland kid made a surprise return to London by joining West Ham last summer. A regular starter for the club’s Under-23 side in the Premier League 2. Loaned to Swansea City before heading abroad to the Swiss Super League on a two-year deal this summer. Scored on his debut for Zurich in the Swiss Cup. | Getty Images

7. Nathan Patterson - Right-back
Current club: Everton - Made only a handful of first-team appearances before Rangers accepted a £12million bid from the Goodison Park club, which later rose to £16m. Struggled initially with injury as he attempted to dislodge club stalwart Seamus Coleman from the team, but has proven his worth when given the chance with some standout performances. Keeping himself fit and clear of injuries seems to be the biggest issue. | Getty Images

8. Karamoko Dembele - Winger
Current club: Blackpool (on loan) - Burst onto the scene at just 13 with Celtic’s Under-20 side. Was once compared to Lionel Messi due to his small stature and dribbling ability. Became a household name and represented Scotland and England at youth level. Huge things were expected but it hasn’t been plain sailing since leaving the Hoops. Wanted a fresh challenge and joined Ligue 1 side, Stade Brest on a four-year deal but he failed to score or provide an assist in Breakout season at Blackpool. | Getty Images
