‘You need to be 100% sure’

AS the late great Sir Matt Busby once said, ‘Winning isn’t everything. There should be no conceit in victory and no despair in defeat.’

No quote better encapsulates the attitude of Cumbernauld United manager John Queen towards his team’s exit from the Scottish Junior Cup, despite the agonising manner of their defeat at the hands of Beith.

In the resulting replay at Guy’s Meadow last weekend, another tense affair ensued, and remained goalless until the referee awarded a very dubious penalty to the away side in the 93rd minute.

The win moves Rangers to within a point of the top spot, with a game in hand, but as would please Sir Matt, they are keeping their feet firmly on the ground.
