ROSEBANK played host to a depleted Kirkintilloch Rob Roy side with only 11 players – two being trialists – available for this first derby match of the season.

Rob Roy started brightly with Declan Reid coming close in the opening seconds with a strike from 20 yards which hit the bar. Immediately Rosebank countered, forcing keeper McCallum to pull off a save from close range. From the start you could see that the game was going to be very tough and equally contested by both teams. The opener came after nine minutes from an excellent play and pass from Daniel Smith, setting Gary Reid up – who finished sweetly.

Rosebank equalised on 13 minutes, emphasising the true intensity of the game ahead.

Rob Roy were making heavy weather of the game by not converting the many chances they had at goal. Dan Smith came close to the second with great footwork, beating five Rosebank players within the 18-yard box only to see his shot deflected off a Rosebank defender. It fell to Gary Reid, but he also couldn’t convert.

Rob Roy started slowly in the second half, with Rosebank hitting the post early on. That seemed to be a wake-up call to Rob Roy, who then dominated the game, but still couldn’t convert their many chances. In the 60th minute a Gary Reid header was cleared off the line by Rosebank captain Christopher Bruce.

The breakthrough came after 70 minutes. Declan McMahon was brought down after he superbly turned a Rosebank defender and Declan Reid converted the free-kick from 20 yards. Rob Roy scored a third from a Malcolm corner – a solid header by Gary Reid for his second. Dan Smith’s close-range effort was then superbly saved by the feet of the Rosebank keeper Jack Smith. With the game in injury time, as the ref added on eight minutes, Rosebank pull a goal back.

All in all, a good result with a depleted squad. Man of the match was trialist Brendan Rice.

Scottish Cup first round

ON a wet Sunday afternoon at Adamslie Park, Rob Roy 19s continued their recent run of form.

The opener came after 15 minutes when Dan Smith chipped the keeper from 18 yards. The pressure continued and Daly went wont close with a acrobatic volley.

Rob Roy increased the lead when they were awarded a free-kick. With Declan Reid and Jordan Jeffrey standing over the ball, Reid struck the ball with fierce power causing keeper to parry and McMahon was in for the rebound to make it 2-0.

On the 38th minute Rob Roy made it 3-0 with a rocket shot from 30 yards by Dan Smith, his second.

In the second half, Rob Roy continued to create chances without converting. Dan Smith then completed his hat-trick with a tap-in after tremendous football from back to front by Rob Roy, with the move starting from keeper McCallum.

Gary Reid scored goal five from a Malcolm flick-on in the 80th minute.

Keeper McCallum was tested for the first time in the 82nd minute. Holytown then pulled one back from a bad back pass from Arbuckle.

The full-time score was 5-1 to Rob Roy. Man of the match was hat-trick hero Dan Smith.

All in all it was a good win for Rob Roy.
