Former Biggar player Scott Lawson selected for Scotland

Ex Biggar Rugby Club star Scott Lawson is part of Scotland’s 30 man squad for the World Cup in New Zealand.

Scott, who currently plays hooker for English Premiership side Gloucester, was selected in coach Andy Robinson’s final squad having impressed in warm-up games against Ireland and Italy.

Despite leaving Biggar in 2003, Scott has always maintained close links with the Hartreemill club.

Indeed he was back passing on advice to youngsters at Harttreemill only last week as the 80 plus youngsters from the Midi sections trained.

Biggar Rugby Club’s Alistair Stewart believes that Scott’s success can inspire others at the club.

He said: “Scott was with us for a few years and did very well before he moved on to Melrose.

“He then went professional with Glasgow before moving down to England; first with Sale Sharks and now Gloucester.

“When Scott started he was actually a scrum half before becoming a hooker. He trained very hard and has really stepped us to the challenge of professional rugby.

“When he was at Glasgow he played under the tutelage of Gordon Bulloch (Scotland’s most capped hooker) and I think that really helped him.”
