Former world champion Karen Lewis-Archer at Carluke High School

Former 400m wheelchair world champion Karen Lewis-Archer visited her home town to explain the secrets of her sporting success to Carluke High School pupils.

Karen – whose 1998 world title success in Birmingham was later followed by appearances at two Paralympic Games – gave an inspirational speech to two groups of third year pupils through her Gold Rush UK project.

Karen, a mum of one now living in Newcastle, who has Spina Bifida, said: “Gold Rush is based on inspiring success in everybody. Through my experiences as an athlete and world class performer, I believe anyone can be successful.

“I use my experiences to inspire people.”
