Former Dunfermline midfielder McGroarty impressed Forth fans with an exciting style of play last season and just missed out on promotion to Central League Division 1.

Ironically it was McGroarty’s new club who pipped Forth to one of the promotion slots.

Wanderers have moved quickly to appoint former boss Jamie McKenzie ahead of Saturday’s league match against Cambuslang Rangers.

Forth committee man Ian Robertson said: “It came out of the blue and everyone at the club is very disappointed.”

The departure came as Forth were knocked out of the Junior Cup by Dyce on Saturday.

Ian added: “We had a lot of chances but we just couldn’t convert another couple into goals.”
