Friendly to be arranged in memory of Carluke football fan Grant Paterson

BOSSES at non-league English football team Calne Town want to arrange a friendly match with Carluke Rovers in memory of Grant Paterson.

As reported previously in the Gazette, Carluke native Grant devoted himself to fundraising for Calne Town during a 10-year spell there between 1999 and 2009.

Calne vice chairman John Rumming estimated that Grant – who died recently at the age of 44 – had raised a whopping £40,000 for the English team before returning north and becoming a Carluke Rovers season ticket holder.

“We’ve spoken to Carluke Rovers people about playing this friendly,” John said.

“We’ve worked out that it would cost about £1500 to pay for a coach up to Carluke and back, but hopefully we’ll be able to do plenty of fundraising and get it sorted.”

He said that Carluke would have to cover matchday expenses for the game at John Cumming Stadium, which could potentially be played this summer.
