Frustration in the forest for rally ace Andy Struthers

17 year old Andy, a pupil at Biggar High school has had a superb 2014 rally championship. Andy competed in the Scottish J1000 Brick and Steel Junior Rally Championship. The championship saw the young drivers rallying their 1 litres MSA spec rally cars in eight rallies ranging from Crail, on the Scottish East Coast to Anglesey in Wales.
Andy finished the year in second place overall and also won the Pearsons of Dunn Micra Challenge Cup for the fastest Micra driver in the championship.
Andy received his trophy and cup at the Scottish Rally Championship Awards and dinner dance at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel. Andy's navigator Andrew Falconer won the navigator's championship.

Competing in the C2 class in his second forest rally, Andy took the lead in stage four when fellow local driver Jordan Black rolled his C2 Challenge spec, causing considerable damage but not preventing him continuing.

Andy and navigator Pete Weall held a two minute lead from Jordan and a four-minute advantage over Sue and Tom Hynd in SRC class one going into the final stage. But they then suffered a major mishap when their car left the road and became stuck in a ditch. They were unable to get out unaided and their rally was over.

Andy said: “It was a disappointing end to the day but I take a lot of positives from the event.

“We have been using different suspension settings on the car and it is starting to pay dividends.

“I am also beginning to feel a lot more confident driving in forest stages.”

Andy, who was again driving the silver C2 belonging to Andrew Pemberton, was contesting an event which was a round of both the C2MotorsportParts.com Ecosse C2 challenge and the ArrCraib Scottish Rally Championship.
