Girls row their way to success at championship

Inspired by the 2012 Olympics, a group of girls from Williamwood High School formed a school rowing club and, after a three years of hard training, were rewarded with Gold at Scottish Open and Scottish Schools Rowing Championships , at Strathclyde Park over the weekend.

The crew of Kirsty Hunter, Lindsey Vest, Lauren Macnaughton, Elspeth Omand and Cox Laura Speake held off established crews from George Heriots and Aberdeen Schools Rowing Association to win both the Womens Junior U18 and the School Girl Championships.

In the double sculls, Lauren Macnaughton and Elspeth Omand became School Girls Doubles Champions. Based at Clydesdale Rowing Club, the Williamwood School girls have received invaluable support from the club especially their coaches Mike Foster and Rachel Arnold.

They are now looking forward to competing at the British Championships in July.
