Going for goal, girls

Pupils at St Ninian’s High joined in a special event aimed at getting more women to consider careers in sports.

Top women athletes joined other female sports professionals at the event, organised by PE staff at the school and more than 100 girls took part.

The girls learned about careers in sport .

Josef Fuchs, principal teacher of PE at St Ninian’s, said: “Having representatives from a range of different sports and professions showed the girls what the world of sport can offer.”

Afterwards, the girls got the chance to take on Scotland and Glasgow City keeper Megan Cunningham in goal.

The event was part of the Fifa ‘Live Your Goals’ campaign.

Joining Megan were fellow Scotland national players Emma Brownlie and Kirsty Smith, who also play for Hibernian Ladies, digital journalist Cheryl Smith, GB hockey player Alison Bell, broadcast journalist Margot McCuaig, mountain biker Kerry MacPhee, Glasgow City’s head of youth Amy McDonald and Scotland rugby players Lynsey Smith and Rachel Cook.
