George has a driving ambition to reach the top

One young southside golfer is packing his clubs and preparing to take a trip to Sweden.

George Burns is one of only two Scottish members of the nine-man Great Britain and Ireland team which is playing Europe in the Jacques Eglise Trophy at Baresback this week.

George, a former pupil at Mearns Castle High, has had a busy year of it so far after securing five As in his Highers.

After summer the southside lad is off to study Maths at the University of St Andrews next month.

While at uni, George will be joining Saints Golf — to his great delight.

This past season has also saw George collect his first 72-hole Scottish Golf Union victory, win a bronze medal at the European Boys Team Championship, in Norway, and delivered an excellent week at the boys Home International.

The Williamwood Golf Club lad will be doing his bit for GB&I on his Swedish trip from August 29 till 30 facing the rest of Europe.

Good luck, George.
