Kilsyth Lennox Golf Club results

The penultimate round of qualifying for the Winter League Final at Kilsyth Lennox Golf Club was played in gorgeous spring weather with the course having dried up nicely for the early part of the season making the playing conditions ideal for the 15th round.

Good performances were posted from the four groups keeping it going to the wire for the qualifying places.

It was another example of a well supported fixture at Kilsyth Lennox GC with 40 players managing to reduce their handicap from the 190 who contested another hugely enjoyable week of golf.David Smith posted the best score of the week with a superb 42 taking him to a point off the qualifying place in his group.

Among the other leading performers, William McCann improved his position in Group Two after a fine 39 took him to third place.Also making a late challenge was Michael Waters, scoring his best of the campaign with 40 points.Updated Group Placings are:Group One Thomas Carberry 244, Eddie Connell 240.Group Two Eric O’Neil 237, Michael Mooney 237.Group Three Colin Bankier 237, Alex Barrie 236.Group Four Michael Reynolds 235, John Abercrombie 234.

With the Covid restrictions eased last week this year’s Winter League Final will be allowed to be played in fourballs which is ideal for the 16 finalists.

Last year’s winner Eric O’Neil will be among those taking their places in a final which looks very open indeed as the good number of first time qualifiers playing will make it more interesting.
