Kings of clubs

Eastwood are celebrating a well-earned victory against the other southside golf clubs.

In the 65th annual Brand Putter League, the team won their final match, a local derby against East Renfrewshire to capture the title for the fourth time in the club’s history.

Captain Robbie Sutherland said: “I am delighted that the trophy is returning to Eastwood after twenty years.

“Just two seasons ago we were double wooden spoon winners but having introduced new players, and putting hard work into building a team, it has all paid off”.

The final match ended in a 6-2 victory for the visitors with wins by Frank Taggart and Austen McDowall for Eastwood.

Eastwood will now go forward to play in the Boundary Bell match against Bishopbriggs to determine the champions of Glasgow on September 4.

Cathkin Braes finished second with Cowglen in third. Whitecraigs took the wooden spoon, finishing with just two points.

Eastwood’s David Dickson took home the individual trophy, beating out Ray Donnelly of Cathkin Braes.
