Gomis surprised by Motherwell move

Senegalese defensive midfielder Gomis (30) had been a regular for the Tynecastle team earlier in the season but joined ’Well on Monday’s transfer deadline day.

“I was kind of surprised,” Gomis said.

“But anything can happen in football and now I’m here.

“Hopefully we can have a good end to the season.

“Motherwell has always been a good team who play attractive football, score loads of goals and are never easy to play against.”

Gomis said he was an aggressive player who could bring energy to Motherwell.

He added: “I can show composure on the ball and connect the play. So hopefully I can do my best for the club.

“I think Motherwell can aim for the top six.

“It’s not going to be easy because there are a lot of teams close to each other in the second part of the table.

“So we just need to win games and see what happens.”

Ahead of their fifth round home tie against holders Inverness Caley Thistle this Saturday, Gomis said he didn’t see why Motherwell couldn’t have a good run in this season’s Scottish Cup.

Gomis added that he was “fit, healthy and ready to go” to make his debut for Motherwell at Partick Thistle on Tuesday.
