The Guy’s Meadow side travelled to Rutherglen on Saturday, where they made light work of Glencairn with a three-nil win to book their place in the last 16 of what is considered the second most prestigious knock-out tournament in the junior game.

Queen said: “In the past I would say I’ve made the conscious decision to neglect the cups.

“But this season I would like to really make a go of it and put together a run in the West.

Meanwhile, Kilsyth Rangers will have to focus their efforts elsewhere after being knocked out of the same cup on penalties by Ardrossan Winton Rovers.

There was something of an interesting subplot here as the two sides are currently joint second in the Super League First, but have yet to meet in a league fixture.

Kilsyth assistant manager Martin Mooney said: “We never played particularly well, for us to take it to penalties was a bit of an injustice to them.
