Hellfire, dinosaurs and skating that’s out of this world – Glasgow Roller Derby’s Home Teams II

DINOSAURS, devil daughters, black crows and out-of-this-world skaters will go to war on wheels this weekend as Glasgow Roller Derby (GRD) hosts one of its legendary Home Team bouts.

Prepare for all-action, full-contact family fun as GRD welcomes back its Irn Bruisers (the all-stars team) after a recent dazzling debut at the prestigious ECDX tournament in Philadelphia, USA.

It’s a double-header for the wonder women of GRD as they go skate to skate to compete for this year’s Home Teams trophy.

Bout one will see the T-Wrecks roaring into action in a bid to take a bite out of the Bad Omens – the GRD team who put the super into superstitious! Expect crows, dark magic and Jurassic larks as the two rival teams – and great friends – compete on the track.

Bout two will bring a team from the heavens into contact with a team skating from the depths of the underworld. Packing more energy than a planet-destroying space station, the Death Stars combine the attitude of the Rebel Alliance with the might of the Empire. However, they face an unholy opposition in the form of the Hell’s Belles, who will be fired up for the challenge.

Doors open at 11.30am. Tickets cost £5 online/£7 on the door. Kids under 14 get in free with a paying adult or adult season ticket holder. Visit www.glasgowrollerderby.comBottom of Form

A GRD spokeswoman said: “Our Home Teams events are always thrilling fun for fans of all ages. If you’ve never been to a bout it’s a great way to get to know the sport and the wonderful skaters who compete for GRD.

“There will be merchandise on sale, cakes, refreshments and plenty of entertainment for everyone.

“The best players regularly star for GRD as part of our A-team – Irn Bruisers – and B-team – Maiden Grrders – so the Home Teams bouts are a brilliant way to give the rest of the top-notch talent at GRD a chance to show their skills in front of friends, family and fans.

“Come along and choose a team to shout and clap for – and experience the fastest-growing female sport in the world right here in Glasgow.”
