Heneghan relishing Parkhead visit

Heneghan was speaking after helping Motherwell to a 2-1 win at Kilmarnock in their Scottish Premiership opener on Saturday.

“Celtic is going to be a massive game and a tough challenge but I’m looking forward to it,” said the ex-Chester defender (22).

“Winning today is going to give us a little boost.

“The Celtic game will be the biggest crowd I’ve ever played in front of.

“The most people I’ve ever played in front of so far is 18,000 during my academy days in a tour of America.

“There will be a good atmosphere at Celtic Park and I’ll relish it as every win we’ve had is breeding confidence. It’s live on the telly and the more times we’re on telly the better, the better for the club as well.

“One of the reasons I came up here is that the league gets massive exposure. You can prove yourself on telly and there’s great media interest.”

Heneghan produced a solid central defensive display in the win over Killie.

“It was a bit hectic,” Ben said. “But as long as we get the three points I’m happy.

“That’s massive for us, absolutely massive.

“I thought I did well so I’m happy with that. I won a lot of headers which is a strength for me so I’ll take that.

“We had a couple of chances which we should have taken but at the end of the day we’ve won the game so we can just look at the positives.”

The England ‘C’ international said that playing in the Scottish Premiership is superior to what he was used to playing for Chester in the fifth tier of English football.

He added: “It’s definitely a step up and that’s what I needed to test myself so I’m happy I’m here and I hope I can continue to play.

“It’s a great set of lads with great quality in the team and I know we can do well.

“We definitely want to finish in the top six. Any more places higher up is a bonus.”

Ben said that ’Well’s competitive fixtures in the Betfred League Cup Group F had been “a good bonus” in getting the team ready for the league season.

“It gave us that competitive edge,” he said.
