High standard at Rok cross-country races in Carluke

THE adult organiser of Sunday's Rok cross-country races for schoolkids at Carluke's Moor Park knows exactly how good the competitors were — because he was comfortably beaten by one of them in the P5 Boys race!

Law and District AAC's Pat Kelly ran as pacemaker in that three-quarters-of-a-mile event, and ended up being comfortably defeated by talented youngster Michael Stevenson.

"I was so impressed by the standard of the runners this year," Pat said.

"I think it's the best we've had in the event's four-year history.

"There were loads of outstanding performances.

"The boy Stevenson absolutely leathered me, much to everyone's amusement!

"I actually had to stop some way from the line, because I was absolutely exhausted."

The Rok cross-country races attracted 150 young runners from seven Clydesdale primary schools on what was a very hot day for running.
