Indoor bowlers back in full swing

CUMBERNAULD Indoor Bowling Club is back in full swing after the festive period with inter league games and internal competitions being resumed.

The first competition to be completed was the ladies pairs final between J. Miller/A. Cairnie and P. Casey/A. Lloyd. Going into the final end the game couldn’t be closer at 13-13. In a tense last end Casey/Lloyd managed to win the deciding shot. The spectators watching certainly enjoyed the close match and if the other finals are half as exciting then we will be very lucky.

Inter club leagues: On December 10, the senior gents’ team were at home to Inverclyde and had a very good win. Cumbernauld skips: E. Wightman lost 10-19; T. Turnbull won 20-15; J. McConnachie won 16-10; J. B. Wilson won 15-11; Total: Cumbernauld 61, Inverclyde 55.

The ladies entertained Fintry at the stadium on January 7, but were unable to secure a win, maybe down to being a bit rusty after the new year. Cumbernauld skips: S. Liddle lost 8-27; A. Cairnie won 18-13; J. Miller lost 12-25; M. Wightman lost 19-22. Total: Cumbernauld 57, Fintry 87. The ladies’ next game is again against Fintry in the Scottish knock-out cup at Lanarkshire, which should be a close game.

On Saturday, January 21 at 2pm, the stadium is hosting a Scottish knockout cup game Perth v Ardrossan.

The Team Championship will be played on Sunday, January 22, at 2pm, Allander or Dumbarton v Fintry. Spectators are welcome and entry is free.

The stadium is open to non-members to come and have a game, shoes and bowls can be obtained for free with the entry charge. Rinks can be booked via the office. Tel. 01236 727852.
