Indoor bowling season well under way

THE season is now well underway at Cumbernauld Indoor Bowling Club with the internal leagues for Gents, Ladies and Seniors being hotly contended, with players vying for places on the various teams who compete in the Inter Club Leagues against other clubs in the area.

The club has also been given the honour of hosting the National Championships for Men and the Ladies Champion of Champions.

These competitions will take place on the weekend of October 21 and 22, 2013. This will be a good opportunity to see the stars of TV in the flesh and you are guaranteed to see bowling of the highest standard. So go along and support the players. On Sunday, Cumbernauld Mixed Team travelled to Whiteinch Indoor Club to compete in the Glasgow and District Top Ten Competition. There were four teams in the Knockout round. In their first game Cumbernauld had a convincing win over Allander by 56-40. They then went on to meet Dumbarton who had defeated Clydebank by 71-40. Cumbernauld were not overawed and in all four matches were soon ahead eventually finishing winners.

Cumbernauld scorers first: Singles 16-17; Pairs 13-9; Triples 12-5; Rinks 19-8; for a combined score of 60-39. Well done everyone. They had an extra incentive with the final being played at Cumbernauld Stadium on Sunday, October 7.

WITH most of Kilsyth Lennox Golf Club’s greens being autumn cored, the ball was still running fairly true, as a good field had entered for Saturday, September 29 Texas Scramble.

In the spirit of the weekend’s Ryder Cup nobody was putting better than the team of E. O’Neil, C. Egan, H. Nelson and new member R. Gilmour, who holed his team’s third shot at the par five 14th, for an eagle, which was well celabrated in the bar later,

This shot contributed to their team’s fine score of 54.3 for a comfortable victory,

M. Waters, A. Barrie, G. Mcgill and M. Waters Jnr, were second with 57.2 points.
