Jack McComish swims to Scottish Junior Championship

And he went on to become Scottish Junior Champion at the Scottish Open Short Course Championships in Tollcross.

Lanark ASC coach Karen Kelly said: "Jack's performance (a swim of 16mins 41.20secs) was clinical in its execution and disciplined in its approach."

And the talented teenager was far from finished, as he won two more junior titles in the 100m breaststroke (1min 08.85secs) and 200m breaststroke (2mins 28.34secs) and took a bronze medal in the 400m freestyle (4mins 12.53secs).

Jack's Lanark team-mates Ross McCafferty (18) and 17-year-old Niall McLeod were also in excellent form. Backstroke specialist Ross reached all three finals, finishing seventh in the 200m (2mins 07.76secs), eighth in the 100m (58.52secs) and 10th in the 50m (27.83secs). The young man came of age in the 200m I.M, reaching the B final and recording a fine PB of 2mins 10.15secs.

Meanwhile, Niall was ninth in the 50m butterfly final (26.20secs) and reached 'B' finals in the 100m butterfly (58.57secs) and 50m breaststroke (31.62secs).

Between them, Jack, Ross and Niall lowered no fewer than 13 club records.

Fellow Lanark member Victoria Gourlay reached the 'B' final of both the 100m and 200m breaststroke, winning them both. She was joined in the 200m final by 14-year-old Morven McNab, whose time of 2mins 49.76secs was a personal best by five seconds.

Maya Andrew (14) had two fine swims in the 100m (1min 10.13secs) and 200m backstroke (2mins 28.42secs), both new club records. Her 100m time broke a record that had stood for 16 years.
