James White stars in Commonwealth Games closing ceremony

IN what was a true Indian takeaway, Lesmahagow teenager James White was chosen to fly out to Delhi to perform at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony on Thursday.

James (18), of The Crescent, an HND Sports Science student at Glasgow's Central College, was one of 346 student volunteers who took part in the eight minute creative performance at the flag handover ceremony.

The youngster, who flew out from Edinburgh on Tuesday, had trained hard for several weeks at a top secret boot camp during meticulous preparation for the big day.

"James was very excited about being chosen for the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony," his dad Ian told Gazette Sport.

James and his Central College team-mates were involved in celebrations of their own in June, after winning the West of Scotland Colleges Cup Final at Hampden.

James, who regularly turns out for Lesmahagow Amateurs FC, starred as fullback in the victorious Central College squad.
