Kenny Young aims for Olympic badminton success

LANARK badminton ace Kenny Young is hopeful that a recent change of coach can provide him with the impetus to become a Commonwealth and Olympic Games star.

Kenny (20), of Laverockhall, reckoned that training in Scotstoun Leisure Centre for four hours a day, five days a week, had become

routine.

He welcomed the recent appointment of Chinese woman Yvette Yun Luo as new national coach and the changes she is introducing.

"Training was difficult and hadn't been going well," Kenny said.

"I was on the verge of quitting badminton but have decided to stick it out for a while under the new coach.

"I'm confident that this fresh approach will help me qualify to play for Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow."

Kenny, who plays club badminton for Swiss League A side La Chaux de Fonds, is now looking forward to competing at the Yonex Scottish National Championships which are being held in Bell's Sports Centre, Perth, from February 5 to 7.
