Kids at Charlie’s Academy parade on famous pitch

Players from the southside based Charlie Miller Football Academy, were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in the FA Community Shield. The young group was one of the eight teams to parade ahead of Sunday’s big game, sponsored by McDonald’s, and won by Arsenal Ahead of the hotly anticipated fixture between the two London rivals, players from Charlie Miller Football Academy walked out on to the hallowed turf at the home of football before Premier League winners Chelsea lost 1-0 to the FA Cup holders in front of a 85,000 strong crowd. The Glasgow grassroots team, founded by and named after ex-Rangers and Dundee united player Charlie Miller were given the opportunity to feature in the parade by local McDonald’s Operations Consultant Lisa Hughes who has supported the club for the past seven months as part of the McDonald’s Club Twinning programme. The programme started in 2008 and has already seen over 1,000 grassroots clubs across the country twinned with restaurants.  Charlie Miller, coach at Charlie Miller Football Academy said, “It was an incredible experience to walk out at the home of English football.  “The kids enjoyed every minute of it and I am sure they will be talking about the day for months to come.  “Opportunities like this wouldn’t arise without the club’s relationship with McDonald’s and we are grateful.”
