And he hopes his time training and fighting with experts of his discipline in its Thai homeland will prove invaluable experience in developing his own skills.

Stuart qualified for the trip by winning the Fighter of the Year award at his local gym, M-Mag in Kirkintilloch.

He only took up fighting 18 months ago but has already won six out of his 10 fights so far.

He said: “It’s a great opporunity to advance my experience by training among the Thais themselves.

“It’s a big step up but hopefully I can use the experience I gain to win a few fights and start to push towards fighting for titles later in the year.”

Stuart says he will also benefit from the experience of training and fighting with Full Thai rules which allow the use of elbows, knees, hands and kicks.

His M-Mag gym Mescho Dunko said Stuart’s trip was a fitting reward for his efforts in winning the ‘Fighter of the Year’ accolade after such a short time in the sport.

He said: “Having only started in the gym from scratch just over 18 months ago this is a great achievement,

“Six of his fights came last year and his two losses have come due to him climbing the ladder very quickly and being faced with top drawer opponents very early on in his carer.

“His rise was fast, but after taking a bad KO defeat in September on our home show you wouldn’t have blamed him for taking some time off if he wanted. But that’s not who he is.

“He then took a fight at the end of October against another top opponent and lost on points after five gruelling rounds.

“In his last fight of the year, on our home show, he fought Full Thai rules and this time he redeemed his self in front of a home crowd to take a win.

“Stuart has generated some interest locally and out of this some local businesses have agreed to Sponsor Stuart to travel, train and fight in Thailand - they are Innovate Alarms, Paul’s The Butchers, Ashoka Brassire, Ross Lockheart Cars & Cosmetic Driveways.

“All at M-Mag would like to say a big thanks to all the sponsors, not just for Stuart’s trip but for all the help through out the years as we are a non-profit making gym and without help we would not have opportunities like this for our fighters and students.”
