Lanark Rugby Club upgrades floodlights

LANARK Rugby Club players are seeing the light properly at last — thanks to a cash injection from the Scottish Hydro Club Facilities Fund.

For the 2000 grant, which the club matched, has helped pay for better floodlights and improved security at the club's Racecourse base.

"The floodlights we had were very poor," said Lanark Rugby Club captain Iain Hughes.

"They were not fit for purpose, so it was great that this grant allowed us to upgrade them. The difference is night and day.

"The lights now cover 50 per cent of the pitch, which is double what it used to be."

Ken Scott, John Smith and current club president Willie Gardner, Ken resurrected the club two or three years ago.

And this season, Lanark Rugby Club ended sixth in the Scottish Hydro Electric West Division 3.

Scottish Hydro Electric sponsorship manager Douglas Flowers said: "We are very pleased to have given Lanark Rugby Club a grant which has so obviously helped them greatly.

"It makes a big difference to have quality facilities, be it the clubhouse, kit or training gear."
