Lanark United announces tie-up with local boys club

IN a revolutionary development in local football circles, Lanark United Junior FC will spearhead an academy which will see it take over three Lanark Thistle Boys Club teams.

United committee man Derek Brown said he believed the arrangement could significantly benefit his club and the boys currently playing for Lanark Thistle 1999s, 2002s and 2003s.

Derek said: “Several other junior clubs, especially in the east, already have a tie-in like this with youth teams. They really find that the community has supported them, and I hope the community gets behind us.

“I think some of the 14-year-olds currently playing for Lanark Thistle could be playing for Lanark United within five or six years.

“We’ll benefit from getting the top youngsters from Lanark to play for us and the kids will benefit from having direct access to playing at a higher level.”
