Lanark’s Jonathan Paterson in Great Britain Paralympic seven-a-side football team

LANARKIAN Jonathan Paterson insists that he and the rest of Great Britain’s seven-a-side Paralympic football team are ready to live up to the London 2012 weight of expectation and claim an unlikely medal next month.

Paterson (24) led GB to seventh overall at the Beijing Games four years ago but he believes the squad are a far cry from those nearly-men.

He said: “The squad is very different this time. Only three players who were in Beijing have made it. A lot of younger guys have come through and done really well.

“I’m really happy to be here.”
