Last flight for Lesmahagow Homing Club

MEMBERS’ hopes for the struggling 110-year-old Lesmahagow Homing Club have long been based on a wing and a prayer – but with membership numbers plummeting, the agonising decision has been made that the club will fold.

Vice president Kerr Stainthorpe (79), has been a club member since way back in 1947 and is understandably upset by its collapse.

“The club’s demise is terrible for the village but it’s just a sign of the times,” Kerr said.

“Everyone wants instant success but this is never going to happen with pigeon racing because you need to put in a lot of hard work,”
