Leadhills Golf Club plans new clubhouse

But members at Leadhills, Scotland’s highest golf course at 1394 feet above sea level, will care little about any perceived lack of grandure surrounding the £17,000 log cabin for which planning permission is being sought from South Lanarkshire Council.

For their current ‘clubhouse’, or cricket pavilion changing area to give it a more adequate description, is a crumbling shed with no electricity which is in dire need of replacement after being battered by wind, rain and snow during its 30-year existence.

Leadhills GC treasurer Robert Gemmell (61), said: “A new clubhouse is very badly needed here because the current facility is crumbling and just like a big garden shed.

“We only have around 40 members at the moment, so we need to get more people on board or the club could fold.

“Hopefully this clubhouse upgrade will help boost the membership.”
