Lenzie lose out to Stewartry

Lenzie were hoping that home advantage would give them the edge against a Stewartry side sitting second in the league with a record of impressive results. But the continued their winning ways in a competitive and excellent match.

Lenzie started well and kept Stewartry in their 22 for the first 10 minutes. However the visitors broke away and scored a well taken try from 80 metres through their rapid backs and good support play to lead, with a conversion, by 7-0.

Lenzie responded well with the forwards retaining the ball and centre Condie finding space to score a rare try which was unconverted, to take the score to 7-5.

Both sides had settled down and played attractive, organised rugby.

Stewartry extended their lead by scoring an unconverted try in the corner following a great phase of play and crossed the line again following a period of forward pressure.

The home side were unfortunate on a number of occasions before McCrae scored a sniping try to take the score to 17-10 at the break.

The second period remained tight, but Lenzie suffered key injuries to Milano, MacKenzie and Haddow which disrupted their play and a Stewartry scored two further converted tries for a deserved win.

Lenzie remain second bottom of the table, with only Cumbernauld below them, and need to start collecting points to work their way up the league. However they can take confidence from their performance against a well organised and very competent side.

Best for Lenzie were Carmichael, Fraser, Williams, Don and Scouller with David Nisbet winning the man of the match award.

Lenzie are at home next week when they entertain Millbrae with a 2pm kick-off.
