The 13-year-old Lenzie Academy pupil, who runs for the VP-Glasgow club, finished second in the under-13 girls’ race, behind Edinburgh AC’s Katie Johnston.

Valencia was delighted with her silver medal yesterday and improve on the bronze she won last year, particularly as it came after a difficult start to the year due to illness.

Mum Caroline explained: “It was a great day and she worked really hard to get a podium place.

“Valencia has been training for the cross country season and especially Nationals and British, but unfortunately took ill after Inter Districts at the start of January which took her out of school and training for a couple of weeks.

“Thankfully she made it to the start line and got to enjoy one of her favourite events.”

Next up for Valencia is the Scottish schools championship and then the Final of British Cross Challenge in Loughborough, the final event of the cross country season.
