Lesmahagow girl Amy Haddow impresses in first eventing competition

In her very first one-day eventing competition, remarkable Lesmahagow girl Amy Haddow finished a highly creditable third on her horse Ipso Facto – which she’s only had for three months.

Amy (14), of Letham Farm, won a rosette thanks to a superb dressage score of 32.5 points and clear rounds in showjumping and cross-country phases including eight and 20 fences respectively.

Her proud mum Christine, a spectator at the prestigious Area 19 event contested by 150 novice class riders in four sections, said: “It was a great achievement for Amy.

“I didn’t think she expected to do as well. The fences were higher than she’d ever encountered before.

“She would have settled for a reasonable dressage performance and clear rounds in the other events.

“So I was thrilled for her to achieve what she did in her first one-day event.

“She has put a lot of work in practising, so it is nice to see it paying off.”
