Lesmahagow Juniors relegated

LESMAHAGOW Juniors manager Robert Irving and his players were devastated on Saturday, after the 2-1 defeat at Vale of Leven which sealed 'Gow's relegation from Central Division 1.

It is now impossible for the Craighead Park men to stay up, as they trail fourth bottom side Glasgow Perthshire by five points with only one game to play.

"Relegation is never nice," Robert said.

"The players are devastated, because they put so much into the game.

They were disappointed because they didn't play the way they can.

"But it is not the end of the world.

"We will get over this disappointment and bounce back from it."

'Gow conceded two sloppy first half goals on Saturday to go in 2-0 down at the interval.

But Johnny Logan pulled a goal back for the visitors on 55 minutes before having two further chances well saved.

Alan Shields had an attempt blocked by the keeper before the end of a defeat which means that Lesmahagow join Carluke Rovers and Forth Wanderers in Central Division 2 next season.

Robert will stay on as manager next season. And he is close to appointing a new assistant manager to replace Eric Watson, who next season will work permanently in his goalkeeping coach role.
