Let’s go round again as Queen’s Park start Q2

As the old song goes: “Let’s go round again!”

Queen’s Park’s visit to Annan saw them start the second quarter of the 2015-16 League 2 season, and having played all our rivals, what have they learned?

The one thing that shines through even this early is that the league is shaping up to be tight. At start of play, there were seven teams separated by just three points. And two of those teams who are slightly adrift  – Arbroath and Stirling Albion – were among many pre-season title favourites.

Safe to say, therefore, that every supporter from Berwick to Elgin is in for a nervy few months as the season unfolds.

Queen’s have surprised many – including a few in the ranks of their own followers – with some of the performances this season. A crisis in defensive personnel saw them adopt the philosophy that attack was indeed the best form of defence, with pleasing outcomes in the main.

They still maintain their capacity to make life difficult for themselves on occasions, as witnessed in the home defeat by Montrose and the way they failed to fully capitalise on a breathtaking start in last week’s cup tie against Elgin.

So would it be the Jekyll or the Hyde QP team that took to the field against the league leaders at Galabank?

Queen’s started reasonably brightly, enjoying plenty possession but on 36 minutes Annan’s flying striker Isalodor took the ball from Flynn, galloped into the space and fired past Muir.

Four minutes before the break Peter Weatherson fired in the second.

Queen’s pulled one back when Bradley let fly with a long-distance howitzer that hit the woodwork but the rebound was acrobatically converted by Woods.

The leveller remained elusive for the Spiders however and Annan finished the job late on with a third from Todd.
