Make or break

CARTHA Queen’s Park coach Gary Grant believes Saturday’s clash against Greenock will be the most important game of the season.

Last season, a 35-28 loss to the Inverclyde side was a major stumbling block in the Dumbreck outfit’s search for promotion.

Championship A league leaders Cartha go into this game well rested, having used the cup, in which they suffered a 43-3 loss to Glasgow Hawks, as a chance to test several second XV players.

The rest has given several players, including second row Colin Powley who was suffering from back spasms, a chance to regain fitness.

Cartha’s Gary Grant told ExtraSport: “The cup is no longer a distraction and the league is our focus. I will put out close to our starting first XV on Saturday and everybody knows this is they key game for our season after what happened last year”.

After Saturday, GHA will face a withdrawn schedule, with no more than a game a month till the end of the season.

Grant added: “It will be a long drawn out push for the title. A win against Greenock will put us on the front foot.

“Commitment is not a concern as we are pushing for the title. As a result, interest and work rate will continue. Training will be focussed on game related fitness and that will show come the Falkirk game at the end of January. ”.
