North Lanarkshire Leisure, which operates the centre and others, was awarded SwiMark accreditation in recognition of its facilities and services - from teaching children and adults to swim to providing a pathway to competitive swimming.

Chief executive Blane Dodds, joined by members of the NL Leisure Aquatics team, welcomed Scottish Swimming Chief Forbes Dunlop to the Tryst for the presentation.

SwiMark recognises the quality of swimming services that exist in North Lanarkshire; the high standards of teaching provision in the area and a commitment to the delivery of a sustainable development pathway.

The aim of SwiMark is to create a nationally recognised, easily identifiable, quality standard that both children and grown-ups can trust.

Mr Dodds said that achieving the accreditation showed North Lanarkshire was leading the way in delivering swimming services and encouraging participation.

He said: “This is great news for swimming in North Lanarkshire; I’m delighted we’ve been awarded the SwiMark and I hope this gives more people, of all ages, the confidence to get in the water.

“I’d like to thank Forbes for joining us here at the Tryst and also pay tribute to our Aquatics team; it’s their hard work that’s made this possible.”

Fiona Paterson, participation development officer for Scottish Swimming, said: “Scottish Swimming is pleased to recognise the important role North Lanarkshire Leisure plays in increasing participation and improving the quality of sporting opportunities within the local community.

“I am delighted to see that the partnership work between Scottish Swimming and North Lanarkshire Leisure has ensured an effective swimming development pathway for swimmers and teachers exists.

“Achievement of SwiMark demonstrates North Lanarkshire Leisure continue to challenge the operation of the learn to swim programme, working to create an effective environment for their swimmers to reach their full potential and providing a service in the community that parents and carers can trust.”
